DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

The digestive system consists of mouth, oesophagus, stomach, duodenum, small intestine, large intestine and anus.

The food enters the mouth and mixes with salaiva it then goes into the oesophagus and moves down to the stomach slowly. This slow movement of food through the oesophagus to stomach is called PERISTALSIS.

Once the food reaches the stomach hydrochloric acid and digestive enzymes convert the food into a semi solid CHYME.

The chyme passes through the duodenum and enters the small intestine where nutrients are absorbed from the chyme. The chyme then passes through the large intestine where further absorption takes place. The waste food is excreted through the anus.
